Kaduna Declaration to the Igbos: Security Agencies Alerted
The Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai has given a directive to the Nigeria Police Force to immediately see to the arrest of all those signatory to the Kaduna Declaration, which we reported yesterday. The governor has also directed the state’s Attorney General and commissioner for Justice to prepare incitement charges against the leaders of the group.
The governor while addressing a press conference on Wednesday being today noted that Kaduna State will not accommodate any person that will incite a section of the country against the other.
Recall that certain group had on a press conference in Kaduna yesterday, handed down an ultimatum to all the South Eastern Igbos resident in the North to vacate the North within three months, before the National Independence Day celebration on October 1st.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government Wednesday gave an assurance that the security Agencies were ready and on top of the situation regarding the position of the so-called coalition of Northern Groups.
While responding to question from State House Correspondents after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, the minister of information and communication. Alhaji Lai Mohammed assured Nigerians that the security agencies are already on the matter, saying that the statement from the groups was capable of destabilizing the polity.
According to him, “The issue of one or two groups issuing statements that are capable of destabilising the polity and then being responded to by another group, I think did not just start today or did not start yesterday.
“What I want to assure you is that security organisations are very very much on top of this matter.”
The minister admitted that the issue did not come up at the deliberations of the Federal Executive Council.
