Gboard for Android can now recognize hand-drawn emoji
Isn’t our fixation for Gboard, a google-owned Android keyboard, very obvious? Well, that’s because it meets the writers cravings for a smarter keyboard.
Gboard has always stood in the list of our recommended keyboards for your smartphones especially the Android OS phones. Well, that’s for most parts, the only platform yours sincerely has tasted it on. Aside its search smarts, the google’s own keyboard boasts of some new abilities.
One of such is the inclusion of hand-drawn emoji; in that case instead of searching for the character you want to insert, you can now draw out what you want to use. You needn’t be an artist to be able to do that.
The success of the feature was a result of Google’s experiments with AutoDraw and QuickDraw and builds on the strength of machine learning to be able to recognise linear patterns. The keyboard follows the pattern you draw and makes suggestions that are close to the shape.

Aside the hand drawn emoji recognition capacity, Gboard has a prescriptive predictions which means that the keyboard has the capacity to predict what a user may want to write next. That’s an awesome feature for writers too.
Instead of just suggesting a single word as you type, commonly used phrases will appear and this helps hasten up your write up and saves you considerable amount of time.
Like we discussed in previous article on Gboard,the keyboard now also offers a very much enhanced web search capabilities and also show more results in a clear rich card. The keyboard in that case, will let users switch to Google Maps directly.
Gboard now supports over 200 languages as we’ve pointed out before in previous article and the updates which enable hand-drawn emoji recognition and richer search and suggestion features are presently rolling out for Android.
