First Nigerian Yam certified for export to US. UK
It’s most likely that by the end of June, Nigeria may export, officially, its first consignment of certified yams to the UK and U.S. This was confirmed by the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Chief Audu Ogbeh, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
According to a statement credited to Mr. Olukayode Oyeleye, Special Assistant to the minister, the Federal Governement was committed to restoring Nigeria’s place in agro-commodities export market.
The minister of Agriculture had said, ‘‘Among a number of initiatives to fast-track these interventions and solidify our base, the Federal Government has empowered the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS), to make it more responsive to issues of safety and phytosanitary standards in food exports.
